A place to begin

More than a classroom.

Hillock English Medium School is a community-led primary school in Tanzania, developed as part of Pamoja Afrika’s work in education and community development.

It was created with the belief that education should go beyond the classroom — helping children develop confidence, skills and self-awareness, and discover their interests, talents and future possibilities. Education becomes a foundation for independence and long-term opportunity.

2026 · A milestone

Our first Standard 7 graduation.

In 2026 Hillock celebrated its very first Standard 7 graduation — the first class to complete primary school at Hillock.

A school that opened its doors in 2021 with ten pupils has now seen its first class finish primary education. Families, teachers and the whole community gathered to celebrate them, certificates in hand.

The first graduates — and the first of many.

Our teachers

15 teachers, one team.

Hillock’s teachers are the heart of the school — guiding children from nursery to Grade 7, in English, with care and high expectations.

Together with families and the community, they shape a school that is inclusive, relevant and grounded in everyday life.

Why English medium

A bridge to the future.

In Tanzania, public primary schools teach in Swahili — and secondary school is taught in English. That jump is hard for many children.

At Hillock, children build their English from a young age, alongside reading, writing, maths, Swahili, sports and creativity — so the step to secondary school becomes a step forward, not a wall.

Beyond the classroom

Talent, expression and identity.

Learning at Hillock combines academic education with creativity and practical development — because education should unlock talent, expression and identity.

Tomorrow

A complete learning institution.

The next phase is secondary and high school. The long-term goal is a place where children and youth continue their education while developing skills, creativity and personal direction.

A place where young people don’t just study — they discover their path.

Teachers, families and the community are part of every step.
